Meet Our Attorneys
While still in law school, Bob had the privilege of extern clerking for Justice Richard M. Sims, III of the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District. This experience began Bob's lifetime interest in appellate law.
After graduating law school, Bob and his wife, Katriona, moved to Los Angeles, California where he joined the law firm of Belcher, Henzie & Biegenzahn. At Belcher, Bob practiced in the aviation group defending companies such as Cessna, Beech, Delta Airlines and TWA in wrongful death, products liability, contract and employment matters in both state and federal courts.
Bob and Katriona then returned to Katriona's native Orange County where Bob joined the law firm of Rourke, Woodruff & Spradlin. At Rourke, Bob's practice expanded to include the representation of local public agencies such as the Orange County Transportation Authority and cities of Laguna Hills and Tustin in land use matters, public law, labor and employment law and tort liability.
A job opportunity for Katriona to work at the State Capitol, saw Bob and his young family move back to the Sacramento region where he formed his own law firm, Rickards, Karalash & Lucas. Bob acted as Managing Partner and headed the litigation and appellate group focusing on employment discrimination, wrongful termination, sexual harassment, labor law, constitutional law, government tort liability, civil rights, unfair business practices and contract law.
Bob then transitioned his practice to Murphy, Pearson, Bradley & Feeney. At Murphy, Pearson, Bob's practice focused on the defense of professional, including attorneys, accountants and architects, products liability, unfair business practices, employment law and commercial general liability with a special emplasis on complex law and motion, writ and appellate proceedings.
After 14 years at Murphy, Pearson, Bob set out on his own and formed Robert Lucas Law in 2016.
Bob is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of California and Sacramento County Bar Association. He serves on the Sacramento County Bar Association's Appellate Law Section Board, and served as its Chair from 2015-2017. Bob also serves on SCBA's amicus curie committee and is a volunteer arbitrator on the Fee Arbitration Panel.
Bob
Bob is an Eagle Scout who served for many years as the Committee Chair of Boy Scout Troop 633 and Pack 633 in Rancho Murieta. He is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta. From 2011-2017, Bob served on the Board of the Rancho Murieta Association including as President in 2017. He is also active in his church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Folsom, where he ushers, lectors, and has served on the vestry and as Junior Warden.
When Bob is not otherwise busy, he is most likely to be found at a volleyball court watching his daughter, a setter, play.
